Mt Field National Park and Russell Falls from Hobart

A top day out visiting Salmon Ponds (morning tea delicious) Mt Field National Park Russell Falls and Horseshoe Falls.

We thought our driver/guide Dave did an excellent job during the course of the tour. He was very knowledgeable about the area and Tasmania in general. Mt Field National Park the Tall Trees and the rainforest were outstanding venues to hike; available to almost all skill levels. A pleasant surprise was the visit to the Salmon Ponds; great history on fly fishing. The trip out from Hobart was very informative especially the history of hop growing. This was the best tour we’ve scheduled in Australia.

Tasmania is a very frustrating place when you can't drive or have access to a car. Day tours from Hobart are a good way to see a bit more of the island. I was keen to go inland for a different view, and this tour fitted the bill. It can seem a long time to travel just to see a waterfall, but said waterfall is definitely worth seeing! It's a 25min return walk through some beautiful rainforest. Unfortunately, the paved route was closed, so we had to take the dirt track (a bit muddy from recent rain and uneven in places), but there were plenty of elderly people managing it just fine. It was pretty nippy, so a woollen jersey or good jacket is advised for this time of year. On the way there is a stop at the salmon ponds. That didn't do it for me, but seeing a wild platypus was a real treat. The morning tea- included in the tour price- at the Cafe there was lovely, a drink and crepe. Our guide suggested the lemon butter option, which we nearly all did! There was a brief stop at a berry farm/shop which wasn't that interesting for me. But it was nice to see the different scenery along the way and find out a bit more about that part of Tasmania. A pleasant way to spend my last day in Australia.

Carmel was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable on all things and relaxed with the itinerary given the small group. A good experience to see Mt Field. Stopped pver at a berry farm which was nice too.

We loved this National Park, especially the fact that there were so many walks on offer, from easy half hour to easy 2 hour plus, moderate and more! The easiest walk was the wheelchair and stroller friendly path to Russell Falls. From here, there are about 200 steps up to Horseshoe Falls. The path then connects to the Three Falls Track across to Lady Barron Falls via the Tall Trees Track. The paths had clear signs and were well used. We spotted pademelons, wag tails, yellow crested cockatoos and green parrots along the 2 hour loop walk. The Three Falls Track is considered challenging in the brochure because of some steep sections. TIP: If climbing UP stairs is your preference, then start at Russell Falls, climb UP to Horseshoe Falls and later UP stairs after Lady Barron Falls. If going DOWN stairs suits you best, start by heading to Lady Barron Falls and ending at Russell Falls! The Waterfalls Cafe had great coffee, and the lemon and poppy seed muffin and carrot cake were delicious, and reasonably priced.

Very pretty place. The guide, Tim, was super nice and knowledgeable on the topic, great insights into the culture and nature of Tasmania.

Really awesome experience going into the Tasmanian rainforest and seeing 2 waterfalls! Bonus stops along the way at the Salmond Ponds and little towns. We really enjoyed it and highly recommend

This area is so serene and peaceful. The vegetation is lush and green and the waterfalls spectacular. It is an old and historical part of Tasmania.

Russell Falls has three tiers of water falling majestically over the rocks. Simply beautiful. The walk then to the Tall Trees, Horseshoe Falls and the Lady Baron Falls was out of this world. The temperate rainforest was lovely to be surrounded by; such a peaceful and amazing place. Truely lucky . The Russell Falls has easy access; the others take more effort.
